Charity Trustee Gwen Deloux shares how a virtual assistant transformed their social media presence

Meet Gwen Deloux, a trustee of the WRVS Benevolent Trust who engaged me as their Community Manager back in May 2017 following a recommendation.

I hope you enjoy reading Gwen’s interview and that her experience of working with me will hopefully help you decide whether outsourcing to a VA could work for you.

Hi Gwen, please introduce yourself

I am one of the trustees of the WRVS Benevolent Trust. Our charity is for the benefit of people who are, or who have been WVS, WRVS or Royal Voluntary Service volunteers or staff by giving one-off grants to help with everyday life.  The Trust helps past or present volunteers or staff who find themselves in need of financial assistance due to an urgent need or crisis. We also have a Youth Bursary Award for young volunteers of the RVS who want to do something amazing.

What challenges did you face before you started working with me?

We didn’t have a sustained online presence on our blog or Facebook page. We posted on Facebook sporadically around our main events, but we needed a constant online presence to increase awareness of the Trust and to reach more people who could beneficiate from a grant or a Youth Bursary Award.

We are all volunteers at the Trust with little experience of social media, and limited time free to dedicate to it, so we needed someone to take it off our hands and manage it for us and decided to appoint a Community Manager.

What were you looking for in a Community Manager?

We were looking for someone knowledgeable and proactive who was able to work independently while still making sure we were okay with what was put out there on our behalf. You came recommended by one of our other trustees, and after interviews with both myself and our Chair, we felt you were the perfect fit for the Trust and appointed you as our Community Manager.

How is my help making a difference to your charity?

HUGE! We now have an engaged community of followers on social media whereas we barely had an online presence before. We know that our social media is in safe hands and that we can rely on you to keep spreading awareness of the Trust.

What would you say to someone thinking about working me?

Go for it! She is very approachable and will be open with you about the needs of your business. She is a great listener and tailors her approach to your needs.
